Windows 95 Setup

When making a connection to the Internet for the first time follow all instructions,
if you are simply checking your current settings skip numbers 3-5:

1. Double-click on the My Computer icon on the desktop.

2. Double-click on the Dial-Up Networking icon.

3. Double-click on the Make New Connection icon.

4. Enter Fam Life in the name field, then click Next.

5. Enter the local dial-up number you have selected in the phone number field, verify you have typed the correct number then hit Next. You will now see a congratulatory screen saying you have successfully filled out all the correct information, click on Finish. This will bring you back to the Dial-up Networking Folder.

6. RIGHT mouse click on the Fam Life icon and choose Properties from the menu that appears.

7. Click on the Server or Server Types tab. In the center of this tab, where it states Advanced Options, the only box that should be checked is Enable Software Compression. Underneath that, where it states, Allowed Network Protocols, the only box that should be checked is TCP/IP. Next click on the TCP/IP Settings button to make sure that the Ip Address is Server Assigned and the Name Server Address is also Server Assigned.

If this is correct click OK and then OK again to be placed back in the Dial-Up Networking folder.

8. RIGHT mouse click on newly made Fam Life icon, then choose, Create Shortcut. Windows will then state that it cannot place a short-cut here, and asks if you would like to place it on the desktop, choose Yes

9. Close out of your Dial-Up Networking box, you will now see a shortcut icon on your desktop for Fam Life. When you are ready, double-click on that icon and enter your username (which is your full email address)  and password. The username and password are VeRy CaSe SeNsItIvE! Make sure you type it in correctly.

10. Sit back and enjoy being online!

Windows 98 Setup

When making a connection to the Internet for the first time follow all instructions,
if you are simply checking your current settings skip numbers 3-5:

1. Double-click on the My Computer icon on the desktop.

2. Double-click on the Dial-Up Networking icon.

3. Double-click on the Make New Connection icon.

4. Enter Fam Life in the name field, then click Next.

5. Enter the local dial-up number you selected in the phone number field, verify you have typed the correct number then hit Next. You will now see a congratulatory screen saying you have successfully filled out all the correct information, click on Finish. This will bring you back to the Dial-up Networking Folder.

Windows 2000 Setup

When making a connection to the Internet for the first time follow all instructions, if you are just checking your current settings skip numbers 1 through 3:

1. You will need to create a Dial-up Networking icon for your connection to Fam Life. Click on the Windows Start button, to Settings, then to Network and Dial-Up Networking. Choose Create a New Connection. Click Next to get to Network Connection Type screen, then choose Dial-up to the Internet, click Next.

2. Opens Internet Connection Wizard, choose I Want to Set-up my Internet Connection Manually, click Next. Question: How do you connect to the internet, choose I Connect Through a Phone Line and Modem, click Next. Next type in the local dial-up number you have selected. If the box is checked, UNCHECK the box next to Use area code and Dialing Properties, click on Next. Type in your Fam Life username (which is your full email address)  and password (making sure all the capital letters are capital), click Next. Give your connection a name, type in Fam Life, click Next.

3. Next the wizard will ask if you would like to Set-up an Internet Mail Account, choose Yes, click Next. Type in your name where it asks for the display name, click Next. Type in your full email address and click Next. Make sure your incoming mail server is set to go through POP3, setting both the incoming and outgoing mail servers to mail.flmtgif.org, click Next. Enter in your username (which is your full email address)  also called account name and password, click Next. Click Finish.

4. Click on the Windows Start button, to Settings, then to Network and Dial-Up Networking. Choose Fam Life. When the connection box comes up, choose Properties. The first tab on the top is General where you will see the phone number, click on the Networking tab also located at the top of the opened window. You should see under Advanced Options the only box that should be checked is Enable Software Compression. Where it states the Componets, highlight TCP/IP and choose Properties. Make sure that the Ip Address is Server Assigned and the Name Server Address is also Server Assigned.

If this is correct click OK and then OK again to be placed back in the Dial-Up Networking folder.

5. Close out of your Dial-Up Networking box, you will now see a shortcut icon on your desktop for Fam Life. When you are ready, double-click on that icon and enter your username (which is your full email address) and password. The username is not case sensitive, however the password is VeRy CaSe SeNsItIvE! Make sure you type it in correctly. .

6. Sit back and enjoy being online!

 

Windows ME Setup


When making a connection to the Internet for the first time follow all instructions,
if you are just checking your current settings skip numbers 1 and 2:

1. You will need to create a Dial-up Networking icon for your connection to Fam Life. Click on the Windows Start button and go to Settings then Dial-Up Networking. Create a Dial-up Networking icon for your connection to Fam Life, Double-click the Make New Connection icon. This will start the Make New Connection Wizard.

2. Give your new connection icon a name. Type in Fam Life, or whatever you want to call the icon you are about to create. The title will not affect the type of connection. Click Next. Type in the modem number that you are going to dial: Leave the Area code: box blank. Type the local dial-up number you selected in the telephone number box. After you are finished typing in the correct number click Next and then Finish.

3. Click on the Windows Start button and go to Settings then Dial-Up Networking.

4. RIGHT click on your newly created connection icon. Choose Properties. The phone number should read 5301100. If the box is checked, UNCHECK the box next to Use area code and Dialing Properties. Confirm that the area and country code boxes are grayed out. Click on the Networking tab on the top. You should see under advanced options the only box that should be checked is Enable Software Compression, and under allowed network protocols the only box that should be checked is TCP/IP. Into the settings of the TCP/IP make sure that the Ip Address is Server Assigned and the Name Server Address is also Server Assigned.

Click on OK to return to the Dial-up Networking folder.

5. RIGHT mouse click on newly made Fam Life icon, then choose, create shortcut. Windows will then state that it cannot place a short-cut here, and asks if you would like to put it on the desktop, choose Yes.

6. Close out of your Dial-Up Networking box, you will now see a shortcut icon on your desktop for Fam Life. When you are ready, double-click on that icon and enter your username (which is your full email address) and password. The username is not case sensitive, however the password is VeRy CaSe SeNsItIvE! Make sure you type it in correctly.

7. Sit back and enjoy being online!

 

Windows XP Setup

When making a connection to the Internet for the first time follow all instructions, if you are simply checking your current settings skip numbers 2-3:

1. From the Start menu, select Control Panel. Double-click on the Network and Internet Connections icon. Click on Network Connections. .

2. Under the Network Tasks panel, select Create a new connection to start the New Connection Wizard. Click Next to advance to the Network Connection Type window. Choose Connect to the Internet and click Next.

3. In the Getting Ready window, choose Set up my Connection Manually and click Next. In the Internet Connection window, choose Connect using a Dial-up modem and click Next. In the Connection Name window, type Fam Life in the ISP Name field and click Next. In the Phone Number to Dial window, type the local dial-up number you selected and click Next. In the Internet Account Information window, type in your Fam Life username (which is your full email address) in the User name field. Type in your Fam Life password in both the Password and Confirm password fields and click Next. After finishing the New Connection Wizard, check the Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop checkbox for easy access to the Fam Life connection icon from the desktop and then click Finish.

4.RIGHT click on your newly created connection icon. Choose Properties. The phone number contain your local dial-up number. If the box is checked, UNCHECK the box next to Use area code and Dialing Properties. Confirm that the area and country code boxes are grayed out. Click on the Networking tab on the top. Mac Setup

1. Locate the Assistants folder on your hard drive, open it, and double-click on the Internet Setup Assistant icon.

2. This Starts up the Internet Setup Assistant, naturally you want to set up a connection, so click on Yes. When it asks if you already have an Internet Account, choose Yes again. It then gives you something to read. Click on the Right Arrow button to advance to the next screen. First it asks you to type a name for the account, type in Fam Life, click on the Right Arrow. Then next screen is for the modem settings, leave everthing the way it is defaulting, click on the Right Arrow. You do not use a script with this connection - so ensure No is selected, click on the Right Arrow. The next screen asks if you would like to Specify an Ip Address, choose no then click the right arrow.


3. Now we move onto your email details: Enter your email address & password as per the details from ourselves, click on the Right Arrow. Enter the Account name (in the format username@flmtgif.org) & Mail Server name as per the details from ourselves, click on the Right Arrow.

4. Almost done... By default you should not have a proxy server set, so click No here, then click on the Right Arrow button. If your modem is plugged in the phone line, & you want to connect - give it a whirl!
